A graduate research assistantship beginning in fall 2007 is available to support M.S. research on Polar ecology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech (http://www.biol.vt.edu/). This research will involve rigorous field study and laboratory analysis as part of a larger project investigating biotic and physical controls over carbon cycling in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica. The successful applicant will spend a season conducting field research in the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long Term Ecological Research site in Antarctica from late November 2007 through early February 2008. Experience conducting field research in remote locations and competence with instrumentation are desirable. The assistantship includes a two year stipend plus tuition; a portion of this support will come from teaching assistantships. Virginia Tech is located in the scenic New River Valley and offers tremendous outdoor recreational opportunities. Please contact Dr. Jeb Barrett for further information.
