I teach 3 courses at Virginia Tech:

 

(1)Evolutionary Biology– BIOL 2704

This is a sophomore-level course that covers the fundamentals of evolution by natural selection, and explores the importance of evolutionary theory for topics ranging from medicine, to agriculture, to conservation.

(2) Advanced Ecology, Evolution and Behavior– BIOL 4984 (writing intensive, 2 ViEWS credits)

This is a senior-level course centered around the Ecology, Evolution and Behavior seminar series that brings approximately 12 biologists from around the nation to Virginia Tech to give research seminars.  The seminars serve as a stimulus for reviewing and synthesizing the broad range of information that has been accumulated over the course of completing the undergraduate biology curriculum.

(3) Population and Community Ecology– BIOL 5024

This is a graduate level course focused mainly on community ecology, with a short review of population ecology.  The course incorporates both lectures and extensive discussions of the literature.  Occasionally, when discussions get slow, we take a break for ecology haiku.
