How to Succeed in This Class

1.  Identify a strong, personal motivation for doing well in this class.  The reasons you come to class, read the text, and study have to be your own.

5.  Read the relevant text BEFORE class, note material that seems important or that you do not fully understand. If this material does not become clear during the lecture, ask questions.

6.  Be an active learner.  Listen, write, answer questions, ask questions.

7.  Develop good study habits.  Paraphrase/expand your notes within 24 hours of class.  Dedicate at least one hour per lecture to the material.  The material must be understood and integrated with previous subjects, not just memorized.  Draw diagrams and concept maps of how  you understand the material. If you are having trouble with this, see #8, 9, 10.

8.  Come to see me during office hours or make an appointment for another time.

9.  Study with others and visit the course web page.

10. Seek help from the Division of Student Affairs Counciling Center (152 Henderson, 231-7473) or visit their Study Skills Self Help Web Site.

11. Participate in the extra credit.  You can improve your understanding of the material and your grade for the course.
