Education & Professional Training

Post-doctoral Fellow, Duke University Medical Center, 1990-1993

Ph.D., Biology, University of North Carolina, 1989

B.S., Biology, College of William and Mary, 1985

Research Interests:

My laboratory investigates the role of microtubules and microtubule-dependent motor proteins in cellular processes such as mitosis and meiosis. We use a variety of molecular, biochemical, and biophysical techniques to understand how microtubules assemble, how motor proteins recognize cellular cargo, and how microtubule assembly and motor activity are regulated. We are particularly interested in compounds that inhibit microtubule assembly or mitotic motor proteins, as either block cell reproduction and thus may be useful as chemotherapy agents or to limit eukaryotic cell proliferation in general.
