Biology Core Check Sheet (.pdf file)

Students must complete the following to receive a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences:

1. Successfully complete the Curriculum for Liberal Education Requirements
2. Students must be making satisfactory progress toward their degree.
3. Students must complete 42 hours of credits in Biological Sciences. Of these 42 credits, 20 credits are specifically required.
4. Students must take BIOL 1004 as freshmen.
5. Students must earn a grade of "C" (2.0) or better in each of the following courses (or their equivalent):

BIOL 1105	Principles of Biology
BIOL 1125	Biological Principles Lab
BIOL 1106	Principles of Biology
BIOL 1126	Biological Principles Lab

or the equivalent

6. Successfully complete the following Biological Sciences core courses:

BIOL 2004	Genetics
BIOL 2104	Cell and Molecular Biology
BIOL 2804	Ecology
BIOL 2704	Evolutionary Biology

7. Successfully complete a minimum of 22 hours of additional Biological Sciences electives (1). The 22 hours of electives must include TWO courses at the 3000 level or higher of inclusive or linked laboratories, or stand-alone laboratories. The 22 hours must also include ONE COURSE from the electives listed below.

BIOL 2304	Plant Biology
BIOL 2504	General Zoology
BIOL 2604 & 2614	General Microbiology with Laboratory

8. In addition to the Biological Sciences courses, students must also complete the following courses:

CHEM 1035 & 1036	General Chemistry
CHEM 1045 & 1046	General Chemistry Labs
CHEM 2535 & 2536	Organic Chemistry
CHEM 2545 & 2546	Organic Chemistry Labs
PHYS 2205 & 2206	General Physics
PHYS 2215 & 2216	General Physics Labs

9. Students must complete the following math sequence, or its equivalent: MATH 1016, MATH 2015.
10. Students must complete STAT 3615.
11. Students must complete the ViEWS Requirements.

Note

1. A maximum of 4 credits may be BIOL 4994.
