Why Austin Gray studies microplastics

Austin Gray started seeing the connections between his father and himself as he got older. His father, who Austin lost when he was 14-years-old, was a teacher for more than three decades and held advanced degrees in education and science. Years later, during his undergraduate work at the Citadel, he decided he too wanted to be a scientist.

The Department of Biological Sciences is at the center of life sciences research and teaching at Virginia Tech.
Our mission is to seamlessly integrate world-class research addressing the grand challenges of the 21st century,
from global change to human disease, by preparing the next generation of scientists.
