Modeling biology: minicourse on multiscale analysis and mechanistic modeling of biological systems

Virginia Tech and community college undergraduate students welcome!

Course Topics:

  • Cell cycle
  • Circadian cycle
  • Image analysis
  • Data analysis
  • Computational modeling
  • Modeling the spread of disease
  • Bioinformatics

Students will:

  • Interact with Virginia Tech faculty, establishing connections for potential future research.
  • Find out how the different research areas under biological systems modeling align with their own interests.
  • Gain hands-on experience with several cutting-edge computational and biological research techniques.
  • Develop confidence in their ability to understand and participate in scientific research.

Daily Schedule:

  • There will be a morning and an afternoon session (~3 hours each) each day, Monday – Friday.
  • All sessions will be held in Steger Hall at Virginia Tech.
  • There will be a combination of lectures and hands-on activities.
  • Lunch and breakfast items will be provided each day.
  • Lodging will not be provided; the course is meant for local students or students who have housing through the end of May.
